Plass is not one of those Christian writers who has everything figured out through book knowledge and analyzing things. I am weary of writers who want to tell people how to get through suffering, when they have never really suffered! You don't KNOW what it takes to deal with traumatic losses until you have experienced them. Plass HAS suffered, and writes with sensitivity and compassion. And it is refreshing! One thing that he acknowledges - sensitivity and compassion do not make pain go away. Jesus never promised that our lives would be free of suffering. He promises only to walk beside us through our trials. Plass' writings are an open, intimate look at one man's walk with Jesus through some very painful times. I love Plass' honesty. He isn't phony about being courageous and victorious. He is open about sometimes doubting, sometimes fearing, sometimes hating, and sometimes loving the Christian life.
